"I tried it once, but I'm not really sure. Should I get more treatments?"
"They said 3 or 4 sessions—do I really need to complete all of them?"
This is what people ask most often after completing their first session.
This is Director Kwon Si-jin of DA Clinic Myeongdong.
We're getting ready to open our doors in Myeongdong soon, and since so many people have been asking about session counts ahead of our opening, I wanted to put this together for your information first.
Rejuran is generally planned as three to four sessions in one course, spaced two to four weeks apart. That is because it is not a procedure that creates a dramatic change all at once, but rather one that gradually boosts your skin's natural regenerative power over multiple sessions.
There are clear medical reasons why one session is not enough and why specific intervals are set.I would like to explain that clearly for you.
First, what Rejuran actually is
Before we talk about sessions, it's quicker to understand if we start with the ingredient.
Rejuran's main ingredient is described as PN (polynucleotide) — purified fragments of DNA obtained from salmon.
The phrase "injecting salmon DNA" causes some confusion. No genetic information is transferred; it's described as fragmented material that prompts the skin's own repair response.
That's the starting point for the whole question of sessions. It isn't a treatment that fills something in — it's a treatment that prompts a response.
Why one session isn't enough
A treatment that fills shows up exactly where you put it.Filler works that way.
Something that prompts the skin to repair itself is different.Stimulation goes in, a repair response follows, and only once those results accumulate does anything become visible.
So the change tends to emerge when repeated stimulation at set intervals accumulates, rather than from a single pass.
I often hear "I had one and it didn't do much." In most cases it isn't that nothing happened — it was judged too early.
Why two to four weeks?
The skin needs time to mount a repair response and settle.
Too close together, and the next stimulus arrives before recovery finishes; too far apart, and the accumulating effect disperses. The middle ground is generally given as two to four weeks.
The types are divided by area and purpose
Rejuran isn't one single product. The names divide into Healer, HB, I, S and so on, and the basis for that is where it's used and for what purpose.
What's used on thin, sensitive skin around the eyes differs from what's used across a broad area, and from what's used on scars. The consistency of the formulation and what's included alongside it are different.
So if you ask in consultation, "which one would you use on my area?", the explanation of sessions and intervals comes back far more specific.
Its purpose differs from skin boosters and Juvelook
Many people arrive thinking these three are the same, so let me set them apart.
- Rejuranthe PN family. On the repair and calming side. Mentioned for thin areas such as around the eyes and fine lines
- Juvelookthe PDLLA family. On the collagen-building and volume side. Mentioned for areas that need volume, such as the nasolabial folds and forehead
- Skin booster injectionshyaluronic acid based. On the hydration side
This is why "which one is better?" is hard to answer as a question. What each one targets — repair, volume, hydration — is different.
For reference, Juvelook is described as not being recommended for very thin areas such as under the eyes or the eyelids, because of the risk of nodules.Even within thin areas, what gets used differs.
How the day itself goes
To make sense of the number of sessions, it helps to know how a single one runs.
- Anaesthetic creamleft on for around 20 to 30 minutes depending on the area. Skipping this makes a large difference to the pain
- Injectionplaced into the dermis across multiple passes. Broad areas may be done by device, delicate areas such as around the eyes by hand
- Calmingthe stage that settles redness and swelling
What's worth watching here is depth. Rejuran is described as belonging in the dermis: too shallow and the marks linger, too deep and it passes the layer it was meant for.
Same product, same number of sessions, different result — this is usually where it splits. Before adding sessions, it's more in order to check what depth it went in at last time.
When to judge
- Right after session 1mostly needle marks and swelling. Not the moment to judge
- Sessions 2–3some people begin to notice a change in texture or firmness
- One month after the coursecomparing at this point is the most accurate
Photographing before and after in the same lighting and at the same angle makes comparison far easier.
How it's injected, and what helps recovery
Even with the same product, how it goes in shapes both the result and the recovery.
For covering a broad area evenly, a device that holds a consistent depth and spacing has the advantage; for delicate areas such as around the eyes, adjusting by hand is said to be better. That's why dividing the work between device and hand comes up. At our Myeongdong clinic we have DermaShine Pro as our automated injection device.
And with injectable treatments, the process of calming things down affects the result as much as what goes in.That's why we've also equipped recovery and aftercare devices such as LDM-MED and Sonoel.Leaving a stimulated area to itself, versus following it with a calming stage, changes the condition you arrive in for the next session.
Raised marks can remain at the injection sites, and these are generally described as settling within a day or two.Redness and bruising also tend to fade within a few days.
That said, if something still feels firm after two weeks, it's safer to have it checked where you had the treatment.
There's no need to rush in these cases
Honestly, if your skin is inflamed right now or you've just had a strong treatment, waiting may serve you better.
Adding stimulation during a period that calls for recovery is out of order.
And if what's bothering you isn't a matter of repair but of hollowing or sagging, simply adding more Rejuran sessions will leave you wanting. That isn't a question of sessions — it's a question of targeting something else entirely.
In my experience, a place that says "calming the skin comes first right now" tends to be the more trustworthy one.
- Usually three to four sessions are counted as one course
- It is done at two- to four-week intervals
- Judge it a month after finishing
Frequently asked questions
Q. Once a course is done, is that it?
A. Many people continue at wider intervals for maintenance. It depends on your skin and your goal, so it's something to settle in consultation once the course finishes.
Q. Can I combine it with other treatments?
A. They're sometimes planned together, but order and interval matter. Doing everything on the same day isn't always better.
Q. Does it hurt a lot?
A. It's done after anaesthetic cream, and because the needle enters repeatedly, the stinging recurs. Thinner areas such as around the eyes tend to register more.
Q. I'm allergic to salmon — is it safe for me?
A. It's described as a purified ingredient, but any history of allergy must be disclosed beforehand. That's a matter to settle in consultation, not one to decide on your own.
Q. Does it help with scars?
A. There's a separate type mentioned for scars. That said, scars are approached differently depending on their shape, so some are settled by Rejuran alone and others need another method alongside it.
Q. How many days do the marks last?
A. Injection marks are generally described as settling within a day or two. That said, on a day when the whole face has been covered closely, redness can run a little longer, so it's more comfortable to avoid the run-up to an important date.
Q. Would more sessions make it better?
A. It doesn't scale indefinitely. The usual guidance is to finish a course and then widen the intervals for maintenance. Before adding sessions, it's better to check first whether you judged it at the right time and whether the depth was right.
Q. When can I wear make-up again?
A. Needle marks can be irritated before they've healed, so start from the point advised where you had the treatment. Most advise avoiding it on the day itself.
Judge after finishing a round
Gather up everything to this point and it comes to this.
Treat Rejuran as three to four sessions in one course, and judge it a month after finishing.
To put it together: Rejuran isn't a treatment that shows what you put in, it's a treatment that shows what accumulates, so the result comes from how many sessions at what interval rather than from the intensity of any one. There's no need to feel impatient after the first.
What I asked at the very top — has it come together for you now?
