When pigmentation, melasma, or blemishes concern you
Care guide by concern
Facial pigmentary conditions divide into epidermal pigment (freckles, lentigines), dermal pigment (Ota's nevus, tattoos), and mixed-type pigment (melasma), each requiring different laser wavelengths and pulse widths. At DA Clinic Myeongdong, we first analyse depth with the Eve V pigment mode, then apply low-fluence toning with Hollywood Spectra, picosecond pulses with PicoSure Pro and PicoPlus, and combined wavelengths with Clarity II in a staged manner. Safe, divided sessions — rather than a single high-fluence pass — are the key to reducing pigment rebound.

Melasma is not a pigment that disappears in a single procedure. A toning protocol that diagnoses the depth and activity of the pigment and reduces it gradually without irritation is the gentlest, low-risk approach. Freckles and age spots can be removed relatively quickly with pinpoint procedures. On your visit, we diagnose the depth and type of pigment separately (melasma, freckles, age spots, post-inflammatory pigmentation) and guide you through a step-by-step protocol that minimizes irritation. We take great care in planning energy output so that excessive high-power procedures don't trigger rebound pigmentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many melasma toning sessions are needed?
It depends on the depth and activity of the melasma, but a series of 8–12 sessions at 2–3 week intervals is generally recommended. At DA Clinic Myeongdong, we measure pigment changes with Eve V at every visit and adjust the fluence and interval for the next session accordingly, prioritising a safe, staged approach over an aggressive single treatment.
I've heard pigmentation can darken after treatment — is that true?
This is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), which can occur when fluence is excessive or sun protection after treatment is insufficient. At DA Clinic Myeongdong, we work within a safe fluence range and provide post-treatment guidance on sun protection and brightening care to minimise PIH.
Can I return to daily life right after laser toning?
Most patients can wash their face and wear makeup immediately, with little disruption to daily life. That said, thorough sun protection is especially important right after the treatment.
Does melasma come back after treatment?
Melasma is a pigment influenced by hormones and UV exposure, so it is more accurate to approach it as ongoing management rather than a cure. Even after improvement, we recommend continued sunscreen use and regular care.
Results and recovery vary from person to person.
